What exactly is a Doula?
"Doula" is greek for "a woman who serves" and is used to refer to a professional who has been properly trained and experienced in providing many different types of support to women throughout their pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum period.
As a birth doula, I am available as a referral source and can help find the answers to pregnancy and birth related questions. During labor, I will be there not only to physically support the laboring mama, but also to provide emotional support, suggestions for position changes, relaxation and comfort measures. My relationship with the birth partners is just as vital and I provide a ton of suggestions and encouragement to help the birth partner be as involved in the birthing process as he/she desires to be. If the birth is in a hospital setting, I will assist the mama in preparing her birth plan and will encourage both mama and birth companion to feel empowered to have the birth of their dreams. I will help to facilitate the communication between mama, her birth partner and the care providers and help mamas feel empowered in all of their decisions. My calming and gentle presence at the birth helps to keep mama and birth companion calm and relaxed to help them achieve the most beautiful birth experience possible. I will be there for consistent, continuous comfort, reassurance, respect and encouragement. Research has shown that labors may be shorter with fewer complications and special circumstances and babies are stronger and have an easier time breastfeeding when a doula attends a birth.
Services I Provide as a Birth Doula
My Birth Doula Fee is $1800
What Is A Postpartum Doula? As a DONA certified postpartum doula, I provide evidence-based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, mother–baby bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care.
I will be there to help and support a new family in those first days and weeks after bringing home a new baby. Research shows that moms, dads and babies have an easier time with this transition if a good support team is in place.
What Type Of Services Do I Provide as a Postpartum Doula?
As a postpartum doula I offer many services to my clients, but my main goals are to help “mother the mother” and nurture the entire family as they transition into life with a newborn. This would include doing things to help mom and dad feel more confident in their roles, sharing education on family adjustment, and tending to the unique needs of a new mother. I work with each family individually to find out their particular needs.
Some of the duties that I perform as a Postpartum doula include:
Most postpartum doulas provide service for a family anywhere from a few days up to a 12 weeks after bringing home a new baby. Families may have me work as many as 7 nights a week. I work as a team with 2 other Postpartum Doulas for families who require more than 8 hours a day or more than 5 days/nights per week.
My Postpartum Doula Fee starts at $45 per hour depending on schedule and requirements.
